Cambridge MD hands over reins after 37 years at Kershaw company
April 01 2009
The managing director of a well known Cambridge company is stepping down after a stunning 27 years at the top – and 22 years working with his successor.
Mick Rayson has been with the company for 37 years and the MD of Kershaw Contracting Services in Cottenham since 1983.
Now the 59-year-old is handing over the reins to operations director Ian Macklin, who has worked for Mick for the last 22 years.
Ian takes over as the new managing director today (1st April 2009).
Outgoing MD Mick said: “Kershaw is a fantastic company to work for, and it seems hard to believe I have been here for so long. The business has changed so much in the last few decades.”
56-year-old Ian has worked at Kershaw Contracting Services since 1986, when he was brought in to start the firm’s asbestos division.
The new MD said: “I have had 22 years’ training for this role, and I’m itching to get started. Kershaw Contracting Services operates in markets that are constantly changing. When we started offering insulation years ago, we had no idea that today most of it would be funded by government grants.
“The green way of thinking is very healthy for our company, and I am keen to investigate future technologies and new markets, and how they can be used to grow the business.”
Kershaw Contracting Services is a division of the Cambridge-based Kershaw Group, which employs 183 people in total.
It works across a large part of the UK upgrading central heating systems, removing asbestos from buildings, and fitting insulation in domestic homes.
Parts of the Kershaw group have a history stretching back 120 years. It’s well known for its involvement in the community.
